Vance first met Huber during the COVID pandemic at The Nightmare Factory, a wrestling school. Vance had auditioned for AEW but had not yet signed a contract. Huber, who had just joined AEW, recognized Vance’s talent and encouraged AEW CEO Tony Khan to give him a chance in the Dark Order.

Preston Vance: Absolutely, and thank you for having me. The first time I met jon was during the COVID pandemic at The Nightmare Factory. I was trying to find my footing in wrestling, having just auditioned for AEW but without a signed contract. To be honest, I was quite nervous. But from the moment Jon walked in, he exuded an aura of confidence and kindness that put me at ease.
Interviewer: That’s splendid to hear. It must have been daunting to be in that position. How did your relationship with him begin?
Preston Vance: Once Jon joined AEW, he quickly became a big part of the locker room. He had this incredible ability to see potential in others, and he immediately recognized it in me. He was one of the first to reach out and offer his help, which was surreal. During that time, he genuinely advocated for me to AEW CEO Tony Khan.
Interviewer: Advocacy in such a competitive environment is invaluable.Can you elaborate on how he helped you in your early career?
Preston Vance: Definitely. Jon saw potential in me and knew I had what it takes. He made inquiries about my contract status when there were some hesitations from AEW officials. Rather of just leaving it there, he insisted on taking me under his wing. It was his belief in me that eventually led to my involvement in the Dark Order, which completely changed the trajectory of my career.
Interviewer: The Dark Order became such a pivotal part of your story. What did it mean to you to be part of that group, especially under Jon’s guidance?
Preston Vance: Being part of the Dark Order was an incredible honor. Jon was the glue that held us together, and his mentorship gave me the confidence to grow as a performer. Even after his tragic passing, I continued to perform as “10”, a tribute to the bond we had.
Interviewer: Transitioning to working with La Faccion Ingobernables must have been an exciting step for you, but I imagine you carry Jon’s teachings with you.
Preston Vance: Absolutely. I’ve moved forward with my career in Ring of Honor, but the lessons Jon taught me about generosity, camaraderie, and believing in others are principles that guide me every day. He had a unique way of lifting others up, and I strive to do the same in my wrestling journey.
