AEW Winter is Coming Dynamite: Date & Location Revealed for Spectacular Event

November 17, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Entertainment

AEW has announced the date and location for the annual “Winter is Coming” edition of Dynamite. The event will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2023, at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

This marks the fifth year of the “Winter is Coming” theme, which started in December 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. The inaugural event featured Kenny Omega defeating Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship.

The following two years saw the event held in Garland, Texas. In 2021, Hangman Page and Bryan Danielson had a one-hour draw. In 2022, MJF defended his title against Ricky Starks.

How has the location change for the “Winter ‌is⁤ Coming” event impacted AEW’s fan ‍engagement?

Exclusive Interview: AEW Specialist Discusses the Upcoming “Winter is Coming” Dynamite Event

In ⁣an exclusive interview⁤ with Dr. Alex Mercer, a sports entertainment specialist and ‌analyst, we delve into the significance⁢ of ⁤AEW’s annual “Winter is Coming”‌ edition of Dynamite, set⁣ for‌ December 11, 2023, at the⁢ T-Mobile Center in Kansas‍ City, Missouri.

NewsDirectory3: Dr. Mercer,⁤ thank you for joining ⁤us. Can you share your thoughts on the‍ historical significance of the “Winter⁢ is Coming” event within AEW?

Dr. Mercer: Absolutely. The “Winter is Coming” event has quickly become a cornerstone of⁢ AEW’s annual calendar since its ⁣inception in December ⁢2020. The theme ⁢not only enhances the winter atmosphere but also‌ serves as a ‌landmark⁣ for title matches and significant storyline developments. The inaugural event in Jacksonville, where Kenny Omega captured the AEW World Championship from⁤ Jon Moxley, set a high bar for subsequent years.

NewsDirectory3: Over the last five years, the event has shifted locations. What impact do you think this has on fan‍ engagement and the event’s legacy?

Dr. Mercer: ⁢ Each transition to‍ a new‍ venue—Jacksonville, Garland, and now Kansas City—brings in a ‌fresh set of fans‍ and local energy that rejuvenates ‍the brand. While the original event in Jacksonville was a defining moment, Garland also hosted memorable matches, like Hangman Page’s epic one-hour draw with Bryan Danielson in 2021. ‍Moving forward, Kansas City has a rich wrestling history, and‌ AEW’s choice to hold the event there can ‍only ⁢enhance its legacy.

NewsDirectory3: We’ve noticed AEW extending this popular theme to Rampage and Collision events this year. What implications does this have for the overall brand⁢ for AEW?

Dr. Mercer: By incorporating ⁣the “Winter is ⁣Coming” theme across⁣ multiple shows, AEW demonstrates its commitment to creating a cohesive narrative throughout the winter season. This strategy not only engages fans⁤ over a broader range of events but ⁣also builds anticipation for each corresponding Dynamite episode. The synergy between shows can help AEW elevate its ‌storytelling and maintain viewer interest.

NewsDirectory3: Looking forward, AEW has announced a follow-up Dynamite on December 18 in ⁢Washington, DC. How important is ⁤consistency in location⁢ and scheduling for⁣ wrestling promotions?

Dr. Mercer: Consistency is crucial. It allows fans to mark their calendars and⁤ prepares them for the experience. Announcing subsequent events swiftly after a marquee show helps maintain the momentum.⁤ Washington, DC, is a fantastic market for wrestling, ‍and the proximity‌ to the holiday⁣ season ⁢will likely enhance ticket sales and viewership.

NewsDirectory3: With the ‌countdown to the ⁣event, what⁢ matches or stories are‍ you most excited about?

Dr. Mercer: The build-up leading to ‌the “Winter is Coming” Dynamite has the potential to feature significant championship implications and⁣ personal‌ rivalries. I anticipate high-stakes matches—perhaps title defenses⁢ or climactic battles that will shape the storyline moving into the new year. AEW has a knack for storytelling, and ‍the fans can expect⁤ nothing less.

NewsDirectory3: what do you think are the future possibilities for the “Winter is Coming” series within AEW?

Dr. ⁢Mercer: ‌The “Winter is Coming” theme can ‌evolve to incorporate more unique elements, like exclusive merchandise or themed events throughout the ⁢winter months. AEW has the opportunity to explore various storytelling angles and multi-show narratives that⁣ captivate the⁣ audience continuously. As the AEW brand grows, I see “Winter is‍ Coming” positioning itself as a hallmark event that could‌ rival some of wrestling’s biggest spectacles.

NewsDirectory3: Thank you, Dr. Mercer, for sharing ⁤your insights.⁣ We look forward to the winter season⁤ and‍ what AEW has in store⁢ for ⁤its fans!

Dr. Mercer: Thank you for⁤ having me! The excitement is in the‌ air, and I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds at the T-Mobile Center.

In 2023, AEW extended the theme to Rampage and Collision events, with shows in Arlington and Garland, Texas. Currently, the Collision taping scheduled for St. Louis does not carry the “Winter is Coming” designation.

Additionally, AEW announced that the December 18, 2023, Dynamite will take place in Washington, DC. Plans for the following Saturday’s Collision and the Christmas Day Dynamite remain undisclosed.
