Lions Brace for Bulldogs’ Offensive Firepower as Fagan eyes Improved Start
Brisbane Lions coach Chris fagan is anticipating a stern test from the Western Bulldogs this weekend, particularly thier potent forward line, as his side looks to avoid a repeat of their slow start in their previous encounter.
the Lions, coming off a thrilling comeback victory against the Bulldogs at Gather Round, are preparing for another clash that Fagan believes will be a notable indicator of their season’s trajectory.”Luke Beveridge’s teams have always been able to score and generally speaking they’ve been good defensively, albeit that’s the criticism of them at the moment,” Fagan commented. “But I reckon they would’ve done a bit of work on that this week, so I’m expecting a good all-round game from the Dogs.”
Fagan’s primary concern is ensuring a stronger opening to the game than in their last meeting. The Lions found themselves trailing by 39 points early in the third quarter before mounting an impressive comeback, ultimately winning by 21 points.
“I haven’t really looked back but all I know is we were probably fortunate to win that game, coming from that far behind,” Fagan admitted. “We wouldn’t want to find ourselves in that position tomorrow night.”
Andrews Faces Tall Task Against Darcy
A key tactical battle will see Lions co-captain Harris Andrews tasked with the significant obligation of curtailing the influence of Bulldogs spearhead Sam Darcy. Darcy, standing at an imposing 205cm, proved a handful in their previous outing, kicking 2.3 from 16 disposals and registering eight marks.
“You probably wouldn’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out that’s who Harris is going to play on,” Fagan stated.”The rest of our defenders aren’t quite tall enough to play on Sam Darcy. Harris will have that job and I know he’s looking forward to it. It will be a great clash.”
Darcy has been in formidable form as returning from a knee injury, booting 17 goals in his last five appearances, highlighting the challenge Andrews will face.
Team Changes and Bailey’s Suspension
The Lions have made a couple of changes to their lineup, recalling Bruce Reville and second-gamer Sam Marshall. This comes as defender Noah Answerth remains sidelined with an Achilles injury, and in-form forward Zac Bailey serves a one-match suspension.
Bailey’s ban for a high bump on Carlton’s Nick Haynes has drawn a measured response from Fagan. “I’ve moved on as the bottom line is he’s got a week,” Fagan said. “My personal view is a little bit harsh, but that’s probably all I want to say about it.”
The Bulldogs, simultaneously occurring, have also shuffled their squad, making three unforced changes. Experienced defender Liam Jones returns for his first game since round six, alongside Luke Cleary and Lachlan McNeil. Josh Dolan (managed), Nick Coffield, and Cooper Hynes have been omitted.
