After being at the top of the trend… How did Kenji Diab break into the art world?

November 13, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Kenji Diab, daughter of star Amr Diab, entered the world of fine arts with a distinct artistic path from the field of music, which was controlled by her family members.

It recently started organizing art exhibitions showcasing the works of contemporary women artists from different parts of the Arab world.

In her new art exhibition entitled “I Forgot How I Felt”, Kenji showcases a group of works by female artists from various Arab countries.

The exhibition is part of the “Memories of My Life” project, which she founded with her close friend, Christina Shawkair, with the aim of discovering new talent and giving Arab women artists the opportunity to showcase their work.

The idea to establish “My Life Diary” began after Kenji Diab graduated from university in 2022, because she wanted to create a platform that would increase the visibility of Arab women artists and give them the opportunity to showcase their work. Exhibitions that reflect the cultural and creative diversity of the Arab world.

Kenzi said: “The idea came after my graduation, and my goal was to work with Arab women in various creative arts and explore new ideas that contribute to changing the prevailing ideas about art in the Arab world.”

In November 2023, Kenzie and her friend organized the first exhibition in the British capital, London, titled Through the Eyes: Opening Perspectives, which featured the works of nine female artists from Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and other Arab countries.

Speaking about why she focuses on the work of Arab women artists, Kenji said: “Stereotypes of Arab women are often incomplete or distorted.

With this exhibition, we wanted to give Arab women an opportunity to express themselves authentically, breaking away from stereotypes that limit their experiences.”
