Producer Ahmed Al-Sabki clarified that the film is not banned. He stated, “The film has not been banned from showing…we will announce the official release date soon.” Al-Sabki noted that the movie was only postponed for two weeks to finalize mixing and editing. He confirmed that all necessary approvals from the censors have been granted.
“The Atheist” faced backlash after its official poster was released, leading to a trending boycott hashtag on social media. The film tackles issues of religious extremism and atheism, focusing on their effects on youth and society.
The movie was written by Ibrahim Issa, directed by Mohamed El Adal, and features actors Mahmoud Hamida, Ahmed Hatim, Hussein Fahmy, and Sabreen.
