After sexually assaulting his lover… “Don’t avoid me”, a man in his 30s attempted to ‘kidnap’ his child from kindergarten

A court has sentenced a man in his 30s to prison for sexually assaulting his girlfriend and attempting to kidnap her children after they broke up.

The Daegu District Court Western Branch Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Do Jeong-won) announced on the 29th that it had sentenced Mr. A (38), who was indicted on charges of sexual assault, etc., to 3 years in prison.

According to the legal community on the 29th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Western Branch of the Daegu District Court (Presiding Judge Do Jeong-won) sentenced Mr. A (38), who was indicted on charges of sexual assault, to three years in prison. He was also ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and to be restricted from working at child-related institutions for three years.

In May 2022, Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of threatening his lover, Vietnamese national Mr. B, with a weapon and sexually assaulting her.

After the victim avoided him, he is also accused of going to the kindergarten where Mr. B’s children attend and attempting to kidnap the child. Fortunately, the kindergarten teacher stopped him and the attempt was halted.

That’s not all. He also bought a flash grenade and went to Mr. B’s house from June 22 to 29, 2022. At that time, they had broken up. The prosecution demanded a five-year prison sentence for Mr. A.

Mr. A denied the charges. During the trial, he claimed, “I have helped the child with the lower house before and we remained close even after the incident,” and “Mr. B is making false statements in order to restore her relationship with her ex-husband.”

The court stated its reasons for sentencing, saying, “The defendant’s circumstances and methods of committing the crime are not good, as he attempted to lure the victim’s children,” and “We took into consideration the considerable physical and mental pain suffered by Mr. B.”
