After Years of Waiting, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 Finally Brings Major Changes

  • Trusted leaker OnLeaks revealed unofficial renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
  • After years of waiting, Samsung is finally offering significant design changes, with the new model being notably thinner than its predecessor.
  • In addition to a thinner design, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a larger display, an improved hinge mechanism, and a more powerful processor.

In early February, we detailed the expected improvements for Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. These models are anticipated to feature an enhanced hinge mechanism and a more efficient cooling system. Some of these improvements are already seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, which is exclusively available in South Korea and China. The Special Edition model includes a 200MP camera, which has been well-received in tech circles.

Thanks to the collaboration between trusted leaker OnLeaks and the tech news site AndroidHeadlines, we now have our first look at the Galaxy Z Fold 7. According to the newly released renders, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a more modern design and will be significantly thinner than the previous generation.

A Significantly Thinner Design and Larger Display

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a thickness of 12.1 mm when folded, but the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be just 9.5 mm thick, including the camera module. When unfolded, the dimensions are projected to be 158.4 × 143.1 × 4.5 mm. In terms of thinness, Samsung is already pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the foldable market. The current record holder for the thinnest foldable phone is the Oppo Find N5, which measures only 4.21 mm when unfolded.

According to the renders, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 appears to be a thinner and slightly wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This wider design allows for a more generous display area. The internal display is expected to be an 8.2-inch panel, while the external display will be a 6.5-inch panel. If these specifications are confirmed, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have the largest internal display among foldable phones, surpassing even the Oppo Find N5.

Samsung has managed to reduce the thickness of the phone without compromising the battery capacity. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to feature a 4400mAh battery, the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 3. While this is good news for battery life, it also means that Samsung could potentially offer even more capacity in a thinner body with current technologies. This is an area where Samsung could innovate further, possibly introducing advancements similar to those expected in the upcoming Galaxy S26, which is rumored to feature longer-lasting batteries.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be launched alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in July. Current speculation suggests that both phones will be priced similarly to their predecessors. This is a strategic move by Samsung to maintain its competitive edge in the foldable phone market, which has seen significant growth in recent years.

For U.S. consumers, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 represents a significant leap forward in foldable technology. The improved hinge mechanism and larger display make it a compelling option for those looking to upgrade from previous models. The thinner design also makes it more portable, which is a key selling point for tech-savvy consumers who value both form and function.

In addition to the design improvements, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to feature a more powerful processor, which will enhance performance and efficiency. This is particularly important for users who rely on their phones for demanding tasks such as video editing, gaming, and multitasking. The improved cooling system will also help ensure that the phone can handle these tasks without overheating.

Implications for the U.S. Market

The Galaxy Z Fold 7’s thinner design and larger display could have significant implications for the U.S. market. With the increasing popularity of foldable phones, Samsung is well-positioned to capture a larger share of the market. The improved hinge mechanism and more powerful processor will also appeal to tech enthusiasts who are always looking for the latest and greatest in mobile technology.

However, there are potential counterarguments to consider. Some consumers may be hesitant to adopt foldable phones due to concerns about durability and screen quality. Samsung will need to address these concerns through robust marketing and possibly offering extended warranties or protective cases to reassure potential buyers.

Despite these challenges, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 represents a significant step forward in foldable technology. With its thinner design, larger display, and improved performance, it is poised to be a major player in the U.S. market. As Samsung continues to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile technology, consumers can expect even more exciting developments in the years to come.
