Resilience-Building Initiative Reaches Farmers in Podor Department
Farmers and women’s groups across eleven municipalities in the Podor department of Senegal have received vital agricultural equipment through the Community Recovery and Progress Program (PRDC), in partnership with the Société d’Aménagement et d’Exploitation des Terres du Delta (SAED) of Podor. The delivery, which took place on Sunday, aims to bolster the resilience of local producers and revitalize the agricultural sector within the Senegal River valley.
A total of 70 type 1115 motor pumps were distributed during a ceremony led by Podor’s deputy prefect, Ousmane Sidibé, and attended by El Hadji mbargou Lô, head of the SAED delegation, along with numerous beneficiaries.
Addressing the Impact of 2024 Flooding
The equipment is specifically targeted towards producers who experienced important losses due to flooding and rising water levels during the 2024 winter season. The beneficiary municipalities include Fanaye, Ndiayène Pendao, Guédé Village, Gamadji Sarré, Dodel, Démit, Bokké Dialloubé, Mbolo Birane, Méry, Doumnga Loa, and Médina Ndiathbé.
Expanded Support Planned for 40 Municipalities
This initial distribution is part of a larger program intended to reach a total of 40 municipalities. Alhassane Kane, PRDC’s monitoring and evaluation officer, emphasized that the support provides crucial relief to communities severely impacted by last year’s floods and that further assistance is planned, extending beyond the agricultural sector.
Kane encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the equipment effectively, signaling a commitment to long-term agricultural modernization in the Senegal River valley. This delivery represents a significant step towards rebuilding and enhancing agricultural practices in the region.
