Ahmedabad Plane Crash Inquiry Underway; Black Box Holds Key Clues

A government-appointed panel is actively investigating the cause of the Air India plane crash near Ahmedabad, officials announced Saturday. The probe into the aviation safety role is proceeding smoothly, they said.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff Thursday, leaving only one survivor among the 242 people aboard. The aircraft’s black box was recovered Friday.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said decoding the black box should provide critical insight into the moments leading up to the crash. He emphasized India’s commitment to aviation safety.
The multi-disciplinary panel, led by the home secretary, will convene Monday and is expected to submit its findings within three months. Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha confirmed the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the investigation into the Air India plane crash. A moment of silence was held before the press conference to honor the victims.
DNA testing is underway to identify the deceased and return them to their families, Naidu said. The Gujarat government is assisting in these efforts.
Following the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered extended checks on the nation’s Boeing 787 fleet. Minister Naidu stated that of the 34 Boeing 787-8 aircraft in service before the crash,eight have already undergone inspection.
