DNA Tests Delay Identification of Ahmedabad Crash Victims

The identification process for victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash faces delays.Authorities have requested additional DNA samples from relatives of eight victims after initial samples failed to produce a match.
Rakesh Joshi, civil superintendent at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, stated that bodies cannot be released to families without a confirmed DNA match. “When there is no match for a longer period of time, then you can ask another sample from another relative,” Joshi saeid.
According to Joshi, the preferred samples are from a father, son, or daughter. If those are unavailable, samples from other family members are considered. He also noted that sibling samples have, at times, provided successful matches.
To date, 231 deceased have undergone DNA matching, with 210 bodies released to their families. Joshi emphasized the sensitivity adn legal protocols involved in the DNA matching process, adding that authorities are working diligently to expedite the process.
Forensic Science University,local administration,state health departments,and other agencies are collaborating to ensure families receive the remains of their loved ones as quickly as possible.
