IMA Appeals to tata for Aid After Air India Crash Near Ahmedabad

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Gujarat State Branch, is urging Tata Sons to provide financial assistance to medical students from BJ Medical College who were either injured or killed in the recent Air India flight AI-171 crash near Ahmedabad airport. The tragic incident claimed 274 lives.
Following the crash, the tata Group, which owns Air India, announced compensation of 10 million rupees for the families of the deceased. The IMA acknowledged Air India’s compensation proclamation and requested further support for the affected medical students and doctors, recognizing their vital future role in healthcare.
In a letter to Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, the IMA requested financial aid for the medical students present at the crash site who were injured or lost their lives. The letter emphasized the importance of supporting these future healthcare professionals and their families.
Separately, doctors Saurav Kumar and Dhruv chauhan have filed a petition with the Supreme Court, seeking directives for the central government to provide adequate compensation to the affected medical students. The plea requests immediate interim compensation of 5 million rupees for the families of all deceased victims, including resident doctors from BJ Medical College.
The petition also seeks rehabilitation support, including employment opportunities for family members, and a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future incidents. The doctors emphasize the critical role of these medical professionals and the need for immediate support.
