Barbie and Hot Wheels might soon get a high-tech makeover. Mattel, the toy giant ⁢behind these iconic brands, announced a collaboration with OpenAI on‍ Thursday to integrate artificial intelligence into ⁣its products.

The partnership aims to “bring the magic of AI to age-appropriate⁤ play experiences with an ‍emphasis on innovation, privacy, ‍and safety,”‍ according to Mattel. The first‍ AI-powered toy is anticipated ⁤to launch later in 2025.

Josh Silverman, Mattel’s chief franchise officer, told Bloomberg that Mattel retains full control over product development⁢ and intellectual property. Discussions with OpenAI began in‍ late 2024.
