Google’s AI ⁤Weather Lab Predicts Cyclone ⁢Paths

Google DeepMind and Google ⁢Research have launched Weather Lab,an interactive website offering a public preview ‌of their AI weather models. The⁤ site features the debut of experimental AI-based cyclone predictions, designed to improve forecasting accuracy.

the goal is to ‌refine‌ this technology to ⁢assist weather agencies and emergency services ‌in better ‍predicting a cyclone’s path and intensity. The AI ⁢weather models ‍are‍ still ⁤in the experimental phase.

A recent ⁤demonstration highlighted the model’s capabilities. On March 2, 2025, the experimental cyclone model accurately predicted the paths of Cyclones‌ honde and Garance south of ⁣Madagascar. It also captured the trajectories of cyclones ⁤Jude and ‌Ivone in ‍the ‍Indian Ocean almost seven days in advance.

What’s next

Google is actively gathering feedback from weather ⁣agencies and emergency service experts to further ‍develop and improve the AI weather models. The Weather Lab platform will continue to evolve ⁤as new data and insights are incorporated.
