IHK Ostwürttemberg conducted an AI Masterclass focused on strengthening the integration of artificial intelligence within schools and vocational training systems.

The event gathered nearly 80 participants, including representatives from educational institutions, vocational training companies, political organizations and administrative bodies.

Integration of AI in Vocational Education

The focus on vocational training reflects a broader shift toward incorporating AI into practical, hands-on learning environments. In technical fields such as automotive repair, carpentry, electrical work, HVAC systems, industrial automation, medical assisting, and plumbing, AI is being used to keep pace with emerging technological changes.

Integration of AI in Vocational Education

According to a report by the USDLA published on October 9, 2025, AI-mediated learning in trade and vocational schools is designed to create a workforce that is adaptive and ready for the technical demands of the 21st century.

Verified applications of AI in these vocational settings include:

  • The use of simulated training and virtual environments, which allow learners to practice tasks before interacting with live patients or real equipment.
  • The implementation of concurrent diagnostics and immediate feedback, enabling learners to correct errors in real time.
  • The creation of adaptive and personalized learning paths that adjust based on a learner’s current level of mastery.

Support for Educators and Administration

Beyond student training, AI is being applied to improve the efficiency of the educators managing these programs. During a UNESCO event on January 21, 2025, it was noted that AI tools can assist teachers in three primary areas: the creation of content, the development of activities, and the simplification of administrative tasks.

The integration of these tools is intended to improve outcomes and promote skills development, provided that educators maintain a critical eye on AI-generated content. UNESCO has emphasized the importance of teacher training and the adaptation of teaching practices to ensure the effective and ethical integration of technology in classrooms.

These developments indicate a systemic move toward combining traditional hands-on learning with smart systems that monitor data to inform diagnostics and facilitate predictive maintenance in technical trades.
