You’ve surely seen images generated by generative artificial intelligence blossoming on social media: for the sake of absurdity, showing Mamoudzou under snow, or to convey political messages, by caricaturing local figures or depicting a crowd of Mahorais brandishing a message.This technological leap, now allowing the creation of an image (illustrated or photo-realistic) with just a few instructions, has become a regular tool for communication in Mayotte.
If associations don’t hesitate to promote thier events with illustrations generated by thes softwares, the printer and communication agency Imprimah also uses them for its clients. Its director points to an advertisement for a construction company on his screen: it shows a man squatting amidst concrete blocks,the reinforcing bars weaving the representation of a seahorse. A photo with that imperceptible blend of realism and unreality, characteristic of AI.
“I don’t need all that”
“I can’t find a craftsman to make me a two-meter seahorse, it would be to expensive, I did it with the computer with several instructions,” explains Patrick Belin. “Today I can make a film: I don’t need a director, a cameraman, image rights, a photographer, a model, I don’t need all that.”
