Lukas Zetterberg’s clutch goal in the sixth period propelled AIK to a dramatic victory over BIK Karlskoga after an extended battle on the ice Wednesday. The game, stretching into multiple overtimes, finally concluded with Zetterberg’s decisive shot.
“That’s probably the most critically important goal I’ve done in my career,” Zetterberg said following the game.
Motin’s Penalty Shifts Momentum
With six minutes remaining in the second period, BIK Karlskoga’s Johan Motin delivered a hit to AIK’s Scott Pooley. Following video review, Motin received a match penalty for the hit to the head.
pooley returned to the ice during AIK’s ensuing power play, met by jeers from some home supporters. AIK capitalized on the five-minute power play, extending their lead to 2-0 before the end of the second period.
BIK Karlskoga mounted a comeback in the third, with simen Andre Edvardsen scoring with 2:22 left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
Zetterberg Seals the Deal in Sixth Overtime
After multiple scoreless overtime periods, Lukas Zetterberg finally broke the deadlock in the sixth period, redirecting the puck past BIK Karlskoga goaltender Samuel Jonsson.
Zetterberg was mobbed by his teammates after the goal. “Great,” he said. “This is probably the most critically important goal I have done in my career. it was great eloge to the north who breaks in and then suddenly the puck lies there. It was just to chop it”.
Zetterberg noted the team’s physical endurance despite the length of the game. “We feel good. We are in a bubble all. You take care of the body, you eat well.So I think both teams can play for a very long time. It’s nice that we let go.”
When asked about his pre-sixth period fuel, Zetterberg admitted to indulging in “a little pizza, sweets, biscuits and chocolate. Everything possible. So just push. You have burned some calories.”
Brattström’s Stellar Goaltending
Goaltender Victor Brattström also emerged as a key player for AIK, making 38 saves, including several crucial stops in overtime.
“I am proud that I can manage to keep that level even in overtime. It’s great fun to make those saves,” Brattström said.
Coach melin Comments on Lengthy Game
AIK head coach Roger Melin joked about the marathon match, telling TV4, “it gets hard. At least my age. I’m not used to being awake this late,” with a smile.
AIK now leads the series 3-2 and will have a chance to clinch the series at home on Friday.
