Two illegal immigrants are facing charges after a jet ski accident on Lake Grapevine, Texas, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Ava Moore over memorial Day weekend. Moore, an Air Force cadet candidate, was killed while kayaking when she was struck by a jet ski.
Daikerlyn alejandraa Gonzalez-Gonzalez, 22, the suspected driver, is charged with second-degree manslaughter. Maikel Coello Perozo, 21, is accused of helping her flee the scene. Both are from Venezuela and were arrested in Dallas.
Perozo allegedly hit another vehicle while speeding away and faces charges of collision involving vehicle damage and hindering apprehension. An arrest affidavit indicates that both suspects had packed suitcases when apprehended.
According to reports, perozo admitted to assisting Gonzalez-Gonzalez to evade capture. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department led the examination into the fatal incident.

The Department of Homeland Security criticized previous open-border policies, asserting they contributed to Moore’s death. The agency stated that Gonzalez-Gonzalez and Perozo entered the U.S. illegally in 2023 and were subsequently released.

Joshua Johnson,acting field director for ICE,confirmed that both individuals had crossed the southern border in 2023 or 2024,were processed,and then released. ICE has filed detainers for both suspects, who will be processed for removal after the conclusion of criminal proceedings in Texas.

Moore, a star basketball player, aspired to become a four-star general, according to her coach at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School. She was scheduled to begin as an Air Force cadet and was part of the US Air Force Academy’s Class of 2029.
