Updated june 19, 2025
Lt. Gen. Andrea Tullos recently joined Ryan at WOTR HQ to share her insights on professional military education for the joint force, with a particular focus on the Air Force. As commander of Air university, Tullos outlined the steps being taken to optimize its mission in the face of competition with China, which she described as the pacing threat. This includes preparing for high-intensity conflicts where sanctuary areas are limited.
Tullos also detailed how Air University and the LeMay Center are contributing to Agile Combat Employment, the Air Force’s strategy for rapidly deploying combat power to enhance survivability and adaptability. A key component is Air University’s plan for “agile learning,” designed to meet the evolving needs of airmen.
“We as an Air Force, owe you education and training, and so we should be pouring into you episodically and consistently throughout your career,” Tullos said. “And some of it should be on-demand. We have unbelievably talented, inquisitive learners coming in the door and they shouldn’t have to wait to get access to content until they have a certain number of years in service or time in grade. They should be able to go online and access that content at the point of need.”
What’s next
Air University plans to continue refining its curriculum and delivery methods to ensure airmen receive the most relevant and timely education and training possible, enhancing their readiness for future challenges.
