Air Force men’s swimming and diving opened the regular season Friday at the Front Range Invite, backed by a pair of diving victories from Brady Nichol and a dominant win in the 200-yard breaststroke from Tanner Wilson, goairforcefalcons.com reported. Nichol swept the springboard and platform events at Cadet Natatorium, while Wilson finished nearly five seconds ahead of the rest of the field in his signature race. Head swimming coach Rob Clayton noted the team’s strong start, stating, It was a great start to the season for us.
Brady Nichol and Connor Sweeney Dominate Diving Events
Brady Nichol led the Falcons in the diving well by securing first place on both the 1-meter board and the platform. Nichol captured the 1-meter title with a score of 312.20 points and followed up by winning the platform competition with 310.00 points.
Making his collegiate debut for Air Force, Connor Sweeney finished immediately behind Nichol in both disciplines. Sweeney posted a runner-up score of 285.00 on the 1-meter board and earned second place on the platform with 291.95 points.
Tanner Wilson Paces the Falcons in the Pool
Tanner Wilson delivered the team’s strongest individual swim by capturing the 200 breaststroke in 2:01.85. Wilson finished nearly five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, while teammates Brandon Cho and Cole Wilson secured fourth and fifth places with times of 2:08.07 and 2:08.10, respectively.
Wilson also collected a third-place finish in the 200 individual medley by clocking a 1:54.31. In the sprint events, Jordan Falls placed second in the 50 free with a time of 20.70 and later took fourth in the 100 free at 46.84. Team captain Garrett Kennedy added a third-place swim in the 200 backstroke at 1:52.78, ahead of collegiate debutant Luke Green in fifth at 1:56.42.
Junior Evan Witte chipped in two top-five individual performances by placing fourth in the 500 free in 4:42.21 and fifth in the 200 butterfly in 1:55.63. In relay action, the 200 free relay squad of Joe Christ, Falls, Wilson, and Green took third in 1:23.94, while the 400 medley relay team of Matthew Doty, Wilson, Jonas Dark, and Falls finished fourth in 3:21.73.
Front Range Invite Concludes Saturday in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs
The Falcons return to competition Saturday, Oct. 3, for the final day of the Front Range Invite. Swimming events will continue in Fort Collins, while diving competition shifts back to Cadet Natatorium, with events scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. MT.
