Air India and Air Mauritius announced an expanded codeshare partnership on Monday, June 2, 2025, to improve air travel connectivity between India and destinations including South Africa, Reunion, and Madagascar. The enhanced connectivity aims to provide more options for passengers traveling between these regions.
The strengthened bilateral codeshare agreement between Air India and Air Mauritius will see both airlines placing their designator codes on 17 routes connecting India with Mauritius, Reunion, South Africa, and Madagascar. This strategic partnership in air travel aims to streamline bookings and travel for passengers.
Typically, a codeshare partnership enables an airline to book passengers on flights operated by its partner carrier using a single ticket, simplifying the travel process.
According to a release, “Air India will place its ‘AI’ designator code on Air Mauritius flights to and from Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, and Antananarivo in Madagascar.” This move expands Air India’s reach into key African markets.
Air India already participates in codeshare agreements on Air Mauritius flights operating between Mauritius and major Indian cities like Mumbai and delhi, and also Reunion.
The expanded codeshare partnership agreement was formalized by Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson and Air Mauritius Chairman Kishore Beegoo during the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) annual general meeting in the National Capital.
