A devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, has⁢ claimed the lives of at least 265 people. The London-bound air‍ India flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff Thursday, impacting a residential ‍area. Rescue teams are currently combing the site, with sniffer dogs‍ aiding in the search.

Amidst the wreckage, one survivor has ​been found: Vishwash ‍Kumar⁢ Ramesh, a British national‍ of Indian origin. He is currently receiving treatment ‌at a local hospital. According to police reports, Ramesh was seated in ⁢an ​emergency exit row ⁤and managed to escape ⁤the aircraft.

The Air India plane crash involved‍ 242 passengers ​and crew,including 217 adults and 13 children. The flight manifest included 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons,​ seven Portuguese ​citizens, and one Canadian. The aircraft’s tail⁢ section became lodged in ⁣a hostel ⁤for medical staff,​ while the nose landed on a canteen where students were eating lunch, witnesses reported.

Deputy ​Commissioner ⁣of Police Kanan ⁢Desai stated that the death toll of the Air India plane crash is expected to rise as​ more remains are recovered. Authorities⁣ are using ⁢DNA testing to ‌identify the deceased. Empty coffins ⁤have been arriving at local hospitals.

Prime Minister Narendra ‌Modi visited‌ the crash site Friday,calling⁣ the⁢ event “heartbreaking beyond words.”

“The official number ⁤of deceased will be declared only after DNA ⁣testing is completed,” said Home Minister Amit Shah.

Ramesh’s brother, Nayan ‍Kumar Ramesh, told PA ⁢Media that his brother had no recollection of exiting the plane.Footage showed Ramesh walking to an ambulance shortly after the crash.

“He called us and he said: ‘I am in the‌ plane and​ I have boarded safely⁤ and everything was​ OK.’ That was ​his last call,” said⁤ Ashfaque Nanabawa, who lost his cousin, his cousin’s wife and their ⁤three-year-old daughter in the Air India⁢ plane crash.

the ⁣Directorate General of⁢ civil Aviation reported that the plane issued a mayday call and crashed ‍immediately after takeoff, reaching an altitude‌ of only about 300 feet.

Boeing has offered its support to⁤ air India. Investigation teams from the UK and U.S.are en route to assist Indian authorities in determining the ⁢cause of the air India plane crash. Tata ‍Group, Air India’s parent company, will provide financial assistance to the families ‌of the deceased​ and⁢ cover medical expenses for the injured.
