A devastating air disaster near Ahmedabad claimed 265 lives, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson confirmed Friday. Flight AI171, bound for London gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff Thursday, impacting the BJ medical College hostel. Among the dead are 241 of the 242 people aboard the flight and 10 individuals on the ground. The Air India crash is under investigation.
Wilson, in a video statement released from Ahmedabad, described the event as “a devastating loss.” He assured full cooperation with authorities and transparency throughout the investigation into the aviation safety incident. Earlier, Wilson briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation.
Visiting the crash site, Wilson expressed deep sorrow. He emphasized Air india’s commitment to aiding the investigation and supporting those affected. Nearly 100 caregivers and 40 engineering personnel have been deployed to Ahmedabad to assist in relief efforts.Friends and Relatives Assistance Centers are active in Ahmedabad,Mumbai,and London,providing travel assistance,grief counseling,and documentation support to families.
