A devastating Air India plane crash on June 12 claimed 270 lives, including that of a seven-month pregnant woman and her husband. Vaibhav Patel, 29, and his 27-year-old wife, Jinal Goswami, were among the passengers. the couple was traveling back from ahmedabad, India, after celebrating Goswami’s baby shower with family.
The parents-to-be, who resided in Croydon, London, never made it home. Patel previously worked in Southampton, Hampshire.Their funeral took place in India on Monday. Nirav Patel, a close friend, described the couple as overjoyed and eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child. The Air India plane crash is under inquiry.
Nirav Patel, who lives in Southampton and had known vaibhav for over a decade as their time in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, remembered him fondly. He said Vaibhav, married for four years, was a “good person who always supported his family and friends.”
Of those aboard the flight, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British citizens, seven held Portuguese citizenship, and one was Canadian. Indian medical authorities reported recovering 270 bodies from the crash site. The Air India plane crash has left families devastated.
The news shocked Nirav and the family in India. “He had rung me two days before the flight to tell me he was coming home,” Nirav said. “We were very good friends and had so much fun together… many trips around India, like to Goa or Rajasthan.This is a massive loss.”
