Seat Location May Have Saved Air India Crash Survivor

June 17, 2025

Following last week’s tragic Air India crash that killed over ⁣200 people, the lone survivor, Viswash Kumar Ramesh, was seen walking away from the wreckage. An aviation expert suggests ramesh’s survival might potentially be linked to his seat location.

Ross ‌”Rusty” Aimer, a retired United Airlines pilot⁤ and CEO of Aero Consulting Experts, said that while there’s⁢ no definitively “safest” seat, sitting close to an emergency exit ⁤considerably improves one’s chances of survival.

Aimer noted Ramesh’s seat, 11A, positioned‌ him to be among the first off the plane.‌ This can be a critical advantage in a disaster.

Aimer⁤ added that Ramesh’s‍ location ahead of the wing fuel tanks ⁣likely shielded‍ him from the worst of the post-crash fire.

Despite‌ these factors, Aimer emphasized that⁢ no seat guarantees ⁤safety, as⁣ crash dynamics are unique each time. While sole survivors are rare, they do occur, and this case might potentially⁣ be notably remarkable.
