Updated June 18, 2025
Travelers planning to fly Finnair in July should prepare for potential disruptions. A threatened strike over wage increases could impact thousands of holiday flights, creating uncertainty for summer travel plans. The aviation industry and airport employees are closely watching the situation as negotiations continue.
Despite ongoing talks, a resolution remains distant. National mediator Anu Sajavaara characterized the situation, saying, “We are still far from the solution phase.”
Minna Palta, representing the employer, acknowledged the positive atmosphere of the negotiations but noted a lack of convergence. “We have negotiated in a good spirit, but I can’t say that the actual convergence would have occurred,” Palta said.
The dispute already led to a strike June 19 by Finnair’s country services and airport employees, resulting in Finnair canceling 128 flights and impacting over 8,000 customers.Finnair offered option flights to those affected. The aviation union (IAU) has issued a new strike warning for Wednesday, July 2, if a wage agreement is not reached.
The core of the disagreement centers on wage increases. The IAU seeks to incorporate unpaid salary increases from 2021 and 2022 into the upcoming contract.
