Egyptian powerhouse Al-Ahli has secured teh loan signing of midfielder Hamdi Fathi from Qatari side Al-Wakrah, bolstering their ranks ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup.
The move comes after Al-Ahli President Mahmoud Al-Khatib met with Al-Wakrah President Sheikh Khalifa bin Hassan, who agreed to the loan deal. fathi,30,previously played for Al-Ahli before joining al-Wakrah in July 2023.
during his time in Qatar, Fathi made 37 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists. He brings a wealth of experience to Al-Ahli,having won 14 major trophies with the club,including three African Champions League titles and three Egyptian Premier league crowns.
Al-Ahli recently suffered a heartbreaking loss to Mexican side Pachuca in the semifinals of the Intercontinental Confederation Cup, falling 6-5 on penalties.
The Egyptian giants are drawn in Group A of the 2025 Club World Cup alongside Inter Miami CF, Palmeiras, and Porto. Their tournament opener against Inter Miami is scheduled for June 15 in the United States, with the final taking place on July 13.
Remarkable Transfer Window
The 2025 Club World Cup regulations allow for an exceptional transfer period from June 1 to 10, 2025, subject to local approval. This window allows clubs to bolster their squads for the prestigious tournament.
Teams can also replace players whose contracts expire during the competition, from June 27 to July 3. A maximum of two new players can be added to the final squad list, without counting towards the maximum 35-player limit.
