Al Ahly Considers Signing Baghdad Bounedjah
Egyptian Powerhouse Al-Ahly Eyes Algerian Striker for 2025 Club World Cup Run
Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian football giant al-Ahly is reportedly considering a move for Algerian international striker Baghdad Bounedjah as they gear up for the 2025 Club World Cup, set to be held in the United States.
Al-Ahly, drawn into Group A alongside Portuguese giants Porto, Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras, adn American side inter Miami, is looking to bolster its attacking options for the prestigious tournament.
Sources close to the club revealed that Al-Shamal, Bounedjah’s current Qatari club, is open to selling the prolific striker. Bounedjah, who topped the Qatari league scoring charts with 11 goals and added six more in other competitions, has reportedly expressed interest in a move to the Cairo-based club.
“Bounedjah was offered to Al-Ahly as part of a list of potential strikers,” a source familiar with the situation told Yalla Koura. “He has expressed his willingness to join and has asked to return to Al-Shamal to begin negotiations.”
However, a significant hurdle stands in Al-Ahly’s path: Bounedjah’s current salary, which is reportedly more than double the highest earner at Al-Ahly.
“The club is still interested, but Bounedjah’s salary is a major obstacle,” the source added. “The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Al-Ahly can overcome this hurdle and secure the Algerian’s signature.”
Al-Ahly has already begun strengthening its squad for the 2025 Club World Cup, recently announcing the signing of Qatari Al-wakrah midfielder Hamdi Fathi.
The 2025 Club World Cup kicks off on June 15th and runs until July 13th, with Al-ahly’s opening match against Inter Miami scheduled for June 15th at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
