Background to the Dispute
A recent interview between poets Muhammad Al-Azmi and Safilbi (Al-Dahilbi) sparked debate after Al-Dahilbi recited a poem that some interpreted as critical of Bin Muhaid, a figure renowned for his generosity. The controversy centered on a specific line within the poem, leading to accusations of disrespect.
The issue arose during a welcoming exchange. Al-Azmi initiated the conversation with a traditional greeting,to which Al-Dahilbi responded with a verse: “The rest lasts,Yamahi, who inherited the ancestors…”
Al-AzmiS Description
According to a report by Al-Marsad newspaper on September 7,2025,Muhammad Al-Azmi addressed the controversy directly. He stated that Al-Dahilbi’s poem was intended as sarcasm directed *at* a previous verse Al-Azmi himself had presented during the interview-a verse praising generosity.
Al-Azmi emphasized that Al-Dahilbi holds deep respect for figures known for their generosity, specifically mentioning the sons of Mahid, whom Al-Dahilbi described as a “reference for generosity.”
Denials of Disrespect
Attendees at the interview initially expressed concern that Al-dahilbi’s verse diminished Bin Muhaid’s reputation. However, both Al-Dahilbi and Al-Azmi have categorically denied any intention to offend Bin Muhaid, who is widely recognized for his philanthropic contributions.
