Al-Fath al-Mubin Operations Room

Overview
Al-Fath al-Mubin is an operations room formed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in mid-2019. It coordinates military efforts in northern Syria, particularly in regions controlled by the Syrian Salvation Government, including Idlib and the surrounding areas of Aleppo, Latakia, and Hama. Several Syrian opposition groups are part of this operations room.

Origin and Establishment
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham established Al-Fath al-Mubin in mid-2019 to manage military operations in northern Syria. In mid-2020, it restricted military formations in its territories, centering efforts solely on Al-Fath al-Mubin. In 2023, Al-Fath al-Mubin announced plans for a new military framework for local factions, aiming to balance power in the region.

Affiliated Groups
The key factions in Al-Fath al-Mubin include:

  • Hayat Tahrir al-Sham: The largest and most significant faction within Al-Fath al-Mubin, formed from various groups such as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham and others. It emerged as a distinct entity in 2017, opposing international talks that it viewed as conspiratorial against the Syrian revolution. Its primary goal remains the overthrow of the Syrian regime.

  • National Liberation Front: Formed in August 2018, this group includes major factions of the Free Syrian Army. It seeks to counteract regime advances into opposition-held areas. The Front comprises groups like the Syrian Liberation Front and the Free Idlib Army.

  • Ahrar al-Sham movement: Established in 2011, Ahrar al-Sham presents itself as a reformed Islamic movement aiming for the establishment of an Islamic state in Syria. It operates mainly in Idlib and Aleppo and has been involved in significant battles since the start of the revolution.

Major Operations
Key operations led by Al-Fath al-Mubin include:

  • Operation "Do not be weak": Launched in 2019, this operation targeted Syrian army forces and allowed for the capture of several villages in southeastern Idlib.

  • Operation "Deterring Aggression": Initiated on November 27, 2024, this operation aimed to execute preemptive strikes against Syrian government forces. It marked the first significant breach of the ceasefire line since the Turkish-Russian agreement in March 2020.

Al-Fath al-Mubin continues to play a vital role in the ongoing military actions in northern Syria, representing various factions unified against the Syrian government.
