A video circulated on social media depicting a man appearing unstable, with accompanying claims that he was under teh influence of narcotics. The video fueled allegations of increased drug use in mahalla Al-Kubra, a city within the Gharbia Governorate of Egypt.
Examination and Identification of the Videographer
Egyptian security services investigated the video and identified the person who filmed and published it as a roaming vendor with a prior criminal record residing in the third police department of Mahalla, according to Youm7.The vendor admitted to filming the man after observing him struggling to walk, and then falsely claiming he was intoxicated, despite knowing this wasn’t true.
The vendor stated his motive for posting the video was to influence another individual.
Identification and Condition of the Man in the Video
Investigations revealed the man in the video was unemployed and a resident of the First police Department. He was found to be suffering from psychological disorders, a claim corroborated by his father, who stated his son had previously received treatment at a psychiatric clinic and often went out independently. Youm7 reported the man was returned to his family with a pledge for his continued care.
