Al Pacino, reflecting on his career, revealed he once turned down a role in Star Wars. The oscar winner said he simply didn’t understand the script at the time.
Pacino recounted visiting George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope production company in San Francisco. He was offered a part in what would become a massive film franchise, but he hesitated.
The actor, in his 2024 memoir Sonny Boy, wrote about his reluctance to take on the role. Speaking with People,Pacino joked about his decision,saying,”I said,‘I think I’m in the mood to make Harrison Ford a career.'”
He explained that he was performing in a Broadway show when he received the Star Wars script. Confused, Pacino sought advice from his friend and mentor, Charlie Loughton. Loughton also didn’t understand the script, leading Pacino to decline the role despite being offered a “fortune.”
