Al-Qaeda Suffers Heavy Blow: Mali Army Takes Down Top Leaders of Loyalist Organization
Yesterday, the Malian Armed Forces (Fama) announced that they had killed several terrorist leaders during an “offensive mission” to search and neutralize terrorist armed groups in the north of the country.
Among the terrorist leaders killed during the October 22 “assault mission” were Mohamed Ould Labbat, “senior logistics officer and envoy of the Timbuktu battalion commander,” and Abdellatif Ansari, “chief of operations of the Zoueira sector,” of the Malian army. he said in a statement.
The statement added that Fama strikes destroyed a small logistical truck carrying “long-wanted terrorist officials and observers in the region.”
This operation comes days after the Malian army announced its success in killing the prominent leader of the Group to Support Islam and Muslims, Al-Qaeda’s branch in the Sahel region of Africa, Al-Izza Ould Yahya, known as Julaybib Al-Ansari.
Since 2012, Mali has witnessed a deep, multidimensional crisis of separatist insurgencies, terrorist raids, and violence between local communities, leading to thousands of deaths and the displacement of hundreds of thousands.
