Alabama Rescue Puppy: 7-Month-Old Dobie Needs a Home

Alabama Doberman Rescue Seeks Foster Home for Young Dog

November 17, 2025 – Sweet Home Doberman Rescue, Alabama’s only Doberman-specific rescue organization, is urgently seeking a foster home for a young Doberman who recently lost his previous home due to his owner’s cancer diagnosis. The request was posted on the organization’s Facebook group earlier today.

Sweet Home Doberman Rescue (SHDR), founded in 2015, is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused, abandoned, and neglected Dobermans. The organization’s mission is to assist Dobermans in any way possible and to educate the public about the breed, which is often misunderstood.

According to SHDR, Dobermans are often portrayed as aggressive, but are in reality “Velcro dogs” – loyal, protective, and eager to please their families. They are described as wanting nothing more than to be by their owner’s side.

The current need for a foster home comes as the rescue continues to see a steady stream of dogs requiring assistance. The Facebook post indicates the dog lost his home due to unforeseen circumstances, highlighting the challenges faced by pet owners and the importance of rescue organizations.

SHDR is actively involved in finding permanent, loving homes for the Dobermans in their care. They currently have a female Doberman named Sugarplum available for adoption. Sugarplum is described as being over one year old, good with dogs and children, and her history with cats is unknown.

Sugarplum has a unique story. According to SHDR, she was born with a head injury, likely caused by her mother either biting or stepping on her as a puppy, resulting in a crooked head and difficulty competing with her siblings for food. She was taken to a shelter but quickly rescued by the organization. She experienced digestive issues requiring veterinary care after being placed in a foster home.

The organization emphasizes the importance of annual vaccinations for pets, noting that vaccines are “100% cheaper than medical costs associated with deadly diseases” such as distemper, parvo, and panleukopenia. Petco Love Care is facilitating free vaccine locations across America, aiming to end preventable euthanasia due to these diseases.

Sweet Home Doberman Rescue encourages the public to support their mission and spread awareness about the importance of pet vaccinations using the hashtag #VaccinatedAndLoved. They also have a Rada shop fundraiser currently active, offering a way for supporters to contribute financially to the organization’s work.

Those interested in fostering or adopting a Doberman from Sweet Home Doberman Rescue can find more information on their website at sweethomedobermanrescue.org or on their Facebook page at facebook.com/sweethomedral.
