Alcaraz Eyes World No. 1 Return at US Open; Sinner’s Reign Under Threat

NEW YORK, NY – The US open is set to be a battleground not just for Grand Slam glory, but also for the coveted World No. 1 ranking.All eyes are on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik sinner as they vie for the top spot in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Sinner, who first ascended to World No. 1 on june 10, 2024, has held onto the position ever since. However,Alcaraz is breathing down his neck,poised to reclaim the throne for the first time since september 10,2023.
The equation is simple: if Alcaraz reaches the same round as Sinner,or outperforms him,he will once again be the World No. 1.
As soon as the first ball is struck at Flushing Meadows on August 23, 2025, Alcaraz will provisionally take the No. 1 spot in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. This is due to Sinner dropping the 2,000 points he earned from his US Open title victory last year.Alcaraz,in contrast,only earned 50 points in 2024 after an early exit.To retain his No. 1 ranking,Sinner must reach at least the third round.
