Lugo to Host “Donar is Love”​ Solidarity Race for Kidney Disease Awareness

LUGO, Spain (May 3, 2025) ⁣- ⁢The city of ⁣Lugo ⁣is preparing to host the second annual “Donar is Love” solidarity race on Sunday, June 1, to benefit Alcer Lugo, the Association for the Fight against Kidney Diseases. The event aims to increase⁤ awareness of organ donation and raise crucial funds for the organization’s ​work supporting individuals affected by kidney disease.

A Day of Sports and Solidarity

The day’s events will commence ‌at 10:30 a.m. with a tour starting and ending at‍ the ‌Plaza Mayor de Lugo, adjacent ‍to the city Council building.

Races for All Ages ⁤and Abilities

The frist event will be a non-competitive walk, known as the Andain, open to participants of all ages. The 3,000-meter route⁤ will encircle the⁣ historic Roman wall, offering a scenic and accessible ‍option ⁤for those who prefer to walk‍ rather than run.

Following the Andain, competitive races will​ begin at 11:00 ‌a.m. with the⁢ U14 and Sub16‍ categories, also covering a 3,000-meter course. At 11:10 ⁢a.m.,⁢ the Sub10​ and Sub12 categories will compete in a 960-meter race around the Praza de España. The⁣ youngest participants, the “Smurfs” category, will than take part in a symbolic, non-competitive 130-meter⁤ dash from ‍the Arts Circle to ‌the‍ City ⁢Council at 11:20‌ a.m.

The final race,starting at 11:30 a.m.,​ will feature‌ the U18‌ and other adult categories, who will complete⁣ a 5,200-meter course⁤ consisting of two full ⁢laps around​ the‍ Roman wall.

Dorsal Collection Data

Participants can collect their⁤ race numbers ‍(dorsals) at the alcer Lugo offices,‍ located at Avda.Infanta Elena,11 (Casar Campoamor,premises 5-7),on Friday,May 30,from 10⁣ a.m. to 2 p.m.‌ and from 6 p.m. to ​9 p.m., and ​on ‍Saturday, May⁢ 31, from 10 a.m.to 1‍ p.m.

For participants traveling‍ from ⁣outside Lugo, a tent will‌ be set ⁤up in the starting area on the⁢ day of the race, opening at 9 a.m., for dorsal collection.
