Alessandria Today: Book Presentation at Oou al
research and Rehabilitation in Dementia Focus of alessandria Hospital Presentation
ALESSANDRIA, Italy – The “Friends of the hospital Library” Association hosted a presentation on dementia research and rehabilitation at the Moncalvo room of the Hospital-University of Alessandria on Wednesday, April 9, at 5 p.m.
The book, “Neuropsychological Rehabilitation Treatments, Pisco-educational and Psycho-social Rehabilitation in Mild or Greater Neurocognitive Disorders due to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related dementia: Chronicle of an Experience with Patients and Families,” was the focal point of the event. Authors Aldo Bellora, director of SC Geriatria; Antonio Pepoli, director of Psychologist Ssa Psychology; and Rossella Sterpone, manager of SSA Psychology, along with fellows Arianna Mandrilli and Debora Moretto, presented their work.
The volume documents experiences, methodologies, and results from the experimental project “Psychoeducational and Psychosocial Treatments in Dementias,” highlighting the integration of scientific research and clinical practice in geriatrics and neuropsychology. The project, part of a three-year regional plan for Alzheimer’s and dementia, involved the AOU of Alessandria and 17 other cognitive and dementia disorders centers (CDCD) across Piedmont.
Specifically, the project established cognitive stimulation groups to combat isolation and reorient individuals with dementia, as well as psychological support groups to improve adaptive skills for patients with mild neurocognitive disorders. Following this, an analysis of the needs of the patient population led to new research avenues and a systemic approach to managing the pathology through targeted re-educational interventions.
In 2022,as part of a regional initiative,an observational study involving 49 patients and their family members was launched. The results of this study are analyzed in the book presented on April 9.
The event underscored the hospital library’s role as a cultural hub, promoting care, well-being, and active participation through reading and author engagement.
