Alex Marquez secured his second consecutive victory at the Spanish Grand Prix in MotoGP, winning the race at Jerez on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after his brother and reigning world champion Marc Marquez crashed out early in the event.
The Gresini Racing rider took the win ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia, who completed the podium. Alex Marquez’s triumph marked his second successive victory at the Spanish GP, following his win in the 2025 edition of the race.
Marc Marquez, riding for the Ducati Lenovo Team, lost control of his machine on lap three while attempting to pass his teammate Bagnaia. The six-time MotoGP champion crashed at Turn 2, ending his race prematurely and allowing Alex to inherit the lead.
Quartararo, who started from pole position, maintained a strong pace throughout the race to claim second place for Yamaha Factory Racing. Bagnaia, also on a Ducati, held off late pressure to finish third, securing the final podium spot.
The result allowed Alex Marquez to reclaim the lead in the MotoGP World Championship, moving ahead of his brother in the standings. Marc Marquez’s crash dropped him to second in the championship, just one point behind his sibling.
Alex Marquez’s win was the 200th victory by a Spanish rider in MotoGP history. It also extended Ducati’s winning streak to 22 consecutive races, matching the all-time record set by Honda between 1997 and 1998.
Johann Zarco finished seventh in the race for the LCR Honda team, having faded in the closing laps after running in the top five earlier. His result contrasted with his strong showing in the sprint race the day before, where he had placed fourth.
The Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez continues to be a pivotal round in the MotoGP calendar, with the Marquez brothers once again at the forefront of the title battle following a dramatic race defined by early incident and sustained pace from the Gresini Ducati.
