Alexandra Weinberger has joined Amazon MGM Studios as the chief of YA and comedy ongoing series. This new role focuses on overseeing first-season YA and comedy shows transitioning into their second seasons.
Three years ago, Amazon MGM Studios organized its leadership team to focus on development, series, and talent management. Under Weinberger, the team will manage titles on Prime Video, including “Cruel Intentions,” “We Were Liars,” and “Motorheads.”
Weinberger will report to Laura Lancaster, who heads co-production television and ongoing series at Amazon MGM Studios.

Alexandra Weinberger: Thank you for having me! I have always been passionate about storytelling, particularly in the YA and comedy genres. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape narratives that resonate with younger audiences on a larger platform like Prime Video. The chance to oversee series transitioning into their second seasons is particularly exciting, as it’s a critical time for character development and audience engagement.
Interviewer: You come from a rich background in television, particularly with Disney and ABC Studios. What experiences do you think you’ll bring to your new role at Amazon MGM Studios?
Alexandra Weinberger: My extensive experience in various leadership roles has taught me how to cultivate creative talent and manage successful series. At Disney and ABC, I was fortunate to work on iconic shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” which not only honed my skills in series development but also in understanding audience expectations. I aim to leverage this to enhance our YA and comedy offerings at Amazon MGM.
Interviewer: You will be overseeing notable titles such as “Cruel Intentions” and “We Were Liars.” How do you plan to approach these projects as they move into their second seasons?
Alexandra Weinberger: Each series has its own unique flavor and audience. My approach will be to analyze viewer feedback and ratings closely, collaborating with our talented teams to build on what resonates with audiences while introducing fresh elements to keep the storytelling dynamic. The second season is where we can deepen character arcs and explore new themes, and I’m excited to see where we can take these stories.
Interviewer: You previously worked as a producer and creative consultant on the “Coming in Hot” podcast. How did that experience prepare you for this new position?
Alexandra Weinberger: Working with “Coming in Hot” helped me understand the intimate nature of audience connection through narrative. Podcasts allow for deep, personal storytelling, and I believe that this perspective can further enrich my approach to developing YA and comedy series. It’s about creating that relatable and engaging content regardless of the medium.
Interviewer: You will be reporting to Laura Lancaster, who oversees co-production television and ongoing series at Amazon MGM Studios. What does this collaboration mean for you as you step into your new role?

Alexandra Weinberger: My vision is to create a diverse slate of series that can appeal to a broad audience while maintaining authenticity in storytelling. YA and comedy are powerful genres that can both entertain and provoke thought. I hope to forge a path where these narratives are not only relatable but also groundbreaking in terms of representation and themes.

Before this role, Weinberger was a producer and creative consultant for the Dear Media podcast “Coming in Hot.” She spent 21 years at Disney, where she held various leadership positions. At ABC Studios, she oversaw popular series like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal.”
Weinberger’s earlier positions include leading comedy development at Touchstone Television and managing series at ABC Entertainment, where she was involved with shows like “Scrubs” and “Dharma and Greg.”
