The Alishan Forestry Railway and Cultural Assets Management Office condemned the incident,labeling it a public danger crime and vowing to pursue legal action against both the tourists and the travel agency responsible.
Photos of the incident, showing tourists scattered along the tracks moments before the collision, quickly circulated online, sparking widespread condemnation. Many netizens expressed their support for severe penalties, emphasizing the importance of passenger safety and the need to deter such reckless behavior.

The Alishan Forestry Railway and Cultural Assets Management Office confirmed that the travel agency, Dream International Travel Agency, had a history of violating regulations. In September, the agency led a group on an unauthorized trek along the Gushan Line, ignoring verbal warnings from officials.
Despite previous warnings, the agency again led a group onto the train tracks on December 14th, disregarding train warnings and broadcasts.
“The tourists’ actions were not only irresponsible but also illegal,” stated Zhou Hengkai, deputy director of the Linti and Cultural Resources Department. “We will be pursuing legal action against both the tourists and the travel agency for violating safety regulations and endangering lives.”
The incident has prompted calls for stricter oversight of tour groups and increased penalties for those who violate safety regulations.
