Velo Tests All-Road Bikes in Marin County

Alvin, Levy, Will, and josh recently convened in Marin County, California, to conduct Velo’s 2025 Field Test, seeking the best all-road bike. The team spent a week evaluating top contenders on Marin County’s roads, putting them through a series of challenges.
The Field Test featured six bikes: four all-road models, a gravel bike, and a pure road bike for comparison. All-road bikes included the Specialized Roubaix, Leaves, Stinner Carrizo Select, and BMC roadmachine. A DEVINCI HATCHET served as the gravel bike, while a Specialized wentos represented the pure road category. Each bike was equipped wiht 32mm slick Continental Grand Prix 5000 S tires to standardize the test.

In the first test, the team assessed initial impressions on a test loop, followed by a climbing test led by Alvin. Subsequent challenges included an aero test, a vibration test, and a descending test. According to Velo, the methods were not strictly scientific, but provided valuable insights into each bike’s performance.

Josh Ross,Velo’s aero expert,conducted a 1.3-mile flat course test, maintaining 200 watts in an aero position to determine the fastest and most cozy bikes. Following the aero test, Josh evaluated the bikes’ all-road capabilities on rough trails, assessing vibration handling, comfort, and confidence at their limits.
