zayn Malik has kicked off his mini residency in Las Vegas, helming an intimate show for fans at Dolby Live at Park MGM on Tuesday night (Jan. 20) with a setlist that included both unreleased tracks and old favorites.
Taking the stage in an old-fashioned army-style jacket with epaulettes and light-wash jeans, the former boy bander flashed grateful smiles in between soulful numbers. Any one Direction stans in the audience might have been slightly disappointed that none of the group’s hits were on the setlist, but Malik more than made up for it with the amount of new tracks he premiered for them Monday.
“I’ve been in the studio a little bit,” he said at one point, according to Variety. ”I got a new record coming for you guys pretty soon. I’m really excited about that … I’ll be playing some songs tonight for the first time. For you guys.”
Malik last dropped an album in 2024, with that year’s Room Under the Stairs peaking at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. He’s released a total of four solo LPs, all of which – including No. 1 debut Mind of Mine – charted on the U.S. tally.
To celebrate his career thus far, Malik will stay in Sin City through the end of the month. by February, he’ll have played seven shows at the Vegas venue, a stint his team described as “only the beginning of what will be a massive year for Zayn as he gears up for his next chapter” in a September announcement of the residency.

Global Institutions Face Scrutiny Over Funding Clarity
International organizations are increasingly under pressure to disclose their funding sources, as concerns grow about potential undue influence and a lack of accountability. Recent reports and analyses highlight inconsistencies in how these institutions report financial contributions, raising questions about the true extent of donor influence on policy decisions.
World Bank and IMF
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have long been criticized for their lending practices and conditionalities.A 2024 report by the Center for Global Growth https://www.cgdev.org/ detailed discrepancies between publicly stated donor contributions and actual funding allocations. The report found that several countries provide funding through indirect channels, making it difficult to track the origin of funds and assess potential conflicts of interest.
United Nations Agencies
Several UN agencies are also facing scrutiny. The UN Development Program (UNDP) and UNICEF rely heavily on voluntary contributions, with a significant portion coming from a small number of donor countries. According to a 2025 analysis by the Brookings Institution https://www.brookings.edu/, this concentration of funding can create imbalances in programme priorities, perhaps favoring the interests of major donors over the needs of recipient countries.
Regional Development Banks
Regional development banks, such as the Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank, are also grappling with transparency issues. A 2026 investigation by the European Investigative Collaborations Network https://www.eicnetwork.org/ revealed instances of opaque loan agreements and a lack of public disclosure regarding project beneficiaries. The investigation highlighted concerns about potential corruption and the diversion of funds.
Calls for Reform
Civil society organizations and some member states are advocating for greater transparency and accountability within these institutions. Proposed reforms include:
- Mandatory disclosure of all funding sources: Institutions should be required to publicly report all contributions, including those received through indirect channels.
- Self-reliant audits: Regular, independent audits of financial records should be conducted to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- Strengthened conflict of interest policies: Clearer rules are needed to prevent donors from exerting undue influence on policy decisions.
- Increased participation of developing countries: Greater depiction and decision-making power for developing countries within these institutions.
These calls for reform reflect a growing demand for a more equitable and accountable global financial system. The future effectiveness of these institutions may depend on their willingness to address these concerns and embrace greater transparency.
