Political Background of Jorge Álvarez Máynez
Jorge Álvarez Máynez has held several legislative roles within the Mexican government. He served as a state deputy to the Congress of Zacatecas from September 7, 2010, to September 6, 2013, representing the 5th district of Zacatecas.
He later transitioned to federal politics, serving as a federal deputy to the Congress of the Union for two terms: from September 1, 2015, to August 31, 2018, and again from September 1, 2021, until February 28, 2024. In both federal terms, he represented the first electoral region.
In 2024, Máynez was the presidential candidate for Citizens’ Movement in the general election. He currently serves as the party’s national coordinator, a position he assumed on December 5, 2024, succeeding Dante Delgado Rannauro.
His political trajectory includes affiliations with several parties over the last two decades. He was associated with the Party of the Democratic Revolution from 2003 to 2009, and with both the Institutional Revolutionary Party and the New Alliance Party in 2010. He has been a member of Citizens’ Movement since 2013.

Born on July 8, 1985, in Zacatecas, Mexico, Máynez is the son of Gabriela Máynez and Felipe Álvarez Calderón, who founded the Communist Party of Zacatecas.
His academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the ITESO, Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara, completed in 2006. He also holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.
