Amanda Ostrem Wins Award for Her Passionate Advocacy for Pork

Amanda Ostrem, an Iowa native, was named the National Pork Producers Council’s (NPPC) Young Pork Advocate of the Year on July 26, 2024, for her work promoting the pork industry.

Ostrem, originally the 2023 Iowa Pork Queen, received the national award at the NPPC’s World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa. The award recognizes young leaders who are actively involved in the pork industry and demonstrate a commitment to its future, according to a press release from the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA).

“Amanda is a fantastic advocate for Iowa pig farmers and the pork industry,” said IPPA President Dwight Mogler in the July 26 release. “Her passion and dedication are truly inspiring, and she’s a wonderful ambassador for Iowa agriculture.”

The NPPC Young Pork Advocate Award is presented annually to individuals aged 21-35 who have shown exceptional leadership and dedication to the pork industry. Nominees are evaluated based on their involvement in the industry, communication skills, and commitment to promoting pork, the NPPC stated.

Ostrem’s advocacy work includes educating consumers about modern pork production practices and engaging with the public on social media. She frequently shares information about the nutritional benefits of pork and the farmers’ commitment to animal welfare, as evidenced by posts on her social media accounts.

“Talking about pork and its importance is something Amanda Ostrem could do all day long,” the IPPA release stated.

The award reflects a growing emphasis on youth engagement within the agricultural sector. The NPPC has increased its efforts to attract and support young leaders in recent years, recognizing their vital role in shaping the future of the pork industry. The organization actively promotes educational programs and leadership development opportunities for young professionals.
