Amazon announced on May 13, 2026, the launch of Alexa for Shopping, a personalized artificial intelligence assistant that the company will roll out to all U.S. Customers over the following week. The assistant will be accessible via the Amazon Shopping app, the company website, and Echo Show devices.
The new tool merges two of Amazon’s existing AI capabilities: the shopping assistant Rufus and the voice assistant Alexa+. According to company releases, Rufus was used by 300 million customers in 2025, while Alexa+ is available on hundreds of millions of devices.
By combining the product expertise and shopping data of Rufus with the personalized context of Alexa+, the company aims to provide a more integrated shopping experience. Alexa for Shopping is designed to help users find and compare products, provide personalized recommendations, track prices, reorder items, and execute purchases when items reach a user’s target price.
Rajiv Mehta, vice president of conversational shopping at Amazon, described the assistant’s ability to maintain continuity across different platforms.
Alexa for Shopping is like having an expert personal shopper who already knows you and remembers your preferences, your past purchases, and your conversations, and carries that knowledge and understanding of you across your phone, laptop and Echo devices. Whether you’re comparing products, tracking a price drop, or continuing research you started yesterday, you don’t have to start over.

Echo Show Integration and Performance
Alongside the launch of the AI assistant, Amazon is introducing the full Amazon store experience to Echo Show devices. This update ensures that the visual interface on Echo Show matches the experience found on the Amazon website and mobile app.

Starting May 13, 2026, Alexa+ customers using Echo Show 15 and 21 can compare products, review customer feedback, and place orders using a combination of voice commands and the touchscreen. Amazon stated that this capability will be extended to additional devices in the near future.
The company reported that customers using Alexa+ have been completing purchases on Echo Show devices at three times the rate of original Alexa
.
User Engagement and Growth Metrics
The transition to Alexa for Shopping follows significant growth in the adoption of Amazon’s AI tools. During an earnings call on April 29, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy provided data regarding the performance of both Alexa+ and Rufus.
Jassy noted that Rufus experienced a 115% year-over-year increase in active users and a 400% increase in engagement. He also highlighted that users of Alexa+ are interacting with the voice assistant twice as often as before.
According to the April 29 report, Alexa+ users have also increased their activity in other areas of the Amazon ecosystem:
- Purchases completed on devices increased by three times.
- Music streaming usage rose by 25%.
- Smart home function usage increased by 50%.
The integration of these tools into a single assistant is intended to leverage this momentum by combining a conversational AI interface with a rich visual shopping experience.
