Amazon MGM Studios has released the official teaser trailer for Madden, the upcoming biopic directed and co-written by David O. Russell that charts the career of legendary NFL coach, broadcaster, and video game namesake John Madden, according to reporting from Deadline.
The feature film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on November 11, followed by a global streaming launch on Prime Video on November 18, 2026. The project stars Nicolas Cage as John Madden, following the coach’s journey from leading the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl title in 1977 through his transition into a prominent television analyst and the creative force behind Electronic Arts’ bestselling video game franchise.
Production Details and Cast Lineup
The film features a supporting cast that includes Christian Bale as hard-charging Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, and Kathryn Hahn as Madden’s wife, Virginia, as reported by Deadline. Additional cast members include Sienna Miller as Al Davis’ wife, Carol, alongside Shane Gillis.
Russell directed the feature from a script he wrote, building upon an earlier draft by Cambron Clark. Todd Black is producing the project through his Escape Artists banner alongside partners Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Jonathan Shukat, as well as Russell and Matthew Budman. Escape Artists’ David Bloomfield serves as executive producer.
From Sidelines to Digital Franchise
Deadline reported that the narrative examines how Madden stepped away from coaching due to health issues and reinvented himself with a quirky, homespun broadcasting style. That path eventually led to his collaboration with EA Sports, establishing a football video game brand that grew into one of the most commercially successful franchises in gaming history.
The Prime Video release strategy builds on promotional momentum established when the streamer debuted the initial teaser during a Christmas evening game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. The autumn release window aligns with the historical significance of the NFL Thanksgiving Day broadcasts, which Madden and his longtime broadcasting partner Pat Summerall helped cement as a staple of American holiday television.
