Amazon Prime Video has reportedly greenlit a live-action television series adaptation of the popular “Life Is Strange” video game franchise, as reported by Variety.
Charlie Covell, known for her work on “Kaos” and “Humans,” will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson will also executive produce the series.
Storyline
The series will center on Max, a photography student who discovers she possesses the ability too rewind time. This power emerges as she attempts to save her childhood friend, Chloe. Together, they investigate the disappearance of a classmate, uncovering a dark undercurrent within their town and facing a life-altering decision.
Franchise Success and Production History
The original “Life Is Strange” game, released in 2015, garnered positive reviews and award nominations.By 2023, the game had reached over 20 million players worldwide. Square Enix has as released a prequel,sequel,and standalone title,expanding the universe.
The project is a collaboration between Square Enix, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap, and Amazon MGM Studios. A previous attempt at a TV adaptation, spearheaded by Legendary Television, did not progress beyond the advancement stage.
