Italian Cinema Shines at Skopje Festival
Skopje, north Macedonia - The second edition of the Cinema Made in Italy festival kicked off to a rousing reception last night at the Cineplexx of the City Mall in Skopje. Margherita Vicario’s powerful film “Gloria” (2024) captivated the audience with its compelling story of female resilience and the fight against societal constraints.
“Gloria” delves into the lives of women composers, whose contributions have often been overlooked and forgotten throughout history. Through its exploration of themes like passion, gender discrimination, and female solidarity, the film offers a poignant reflection on the struggles and triumphs of women in a patriarchal world.
The festival opening was graced by Italian Ambassador to North Macedonia Andrea Silvestri,who highlighted the collaborative effort behind this cinematic festivity. “This crucial initiative dedicated to Italian cinema wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation of the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, Cineplexx Skopje City Mall, and Cinecittà,” Ambassador Silvestri remarked.
The festival continues tonight with a double feature, showcasing the breadth and depth of Italian filmmaking. At 7:00 PM, audiences can experience Gianni Amelio’s “Battlefield” (2024), a historical drama that premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival. Following at 9:00 PM is Daniele Luchetti’s “Confidenza” (2023), a critically acclaimed film that garnered five nominations for the esteemed nastri d’Argento awards.
