Amber Reed, the former England center, has been named assistant coach for Bristol Bears Women, a Premiership Women’s Rugby side. Reed’s appointment marks a new chapter for the club as thay navigate changes in leadership and focus on developing talent.
Reed, 34, retired at the end of the recent season after a stellar 16-year career with the Bears. She played nearly 200 matches and earned 47 caps for England. Her extensive experience as a player positions her well to contribute to the team’s coaching staff.
In addition to her coaching duties,Reed will oversee the partnership between the Bristol Bears Women and the University of Bristol’s women’s team. This role highlights the club’s commitment to fostering rugby talent at the university level and creating pathways for young players.
Reed will work alongside a new head coach, who has yet to be named. The position became available after dave Ward, the long-serving boss, departed last month.
“Amber is a legend of Bristol Bears Women and her knowledge and experience will be invaluable as she continues her coaching career, and the program begins a new chapter,” Pat Lam, Bristol director of rugby, said.
