AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. Experienced a significant increase in ticket sales and concessions revenue during the Easter holiday weekend, driven largely by the global debut of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The film, which serves as a sequel to the 2023 hit, generated more than $370 million at the global box office. This performance contributed to a surge in AMC’s stock price, which rose by 13% on April 6, 2026.
Record-Breaking Holiday Performance
Between April 1 and April 5, 2026, AMC reported that more than 6 million moviegoers visited its theaters in the United States and its Odeon locations internationally.
According to company data, this period resulted in the highest combined admissions and food and beverage revenue for an Easter weekend in the 106-year history of the company.
The increase in revenue was not limited to ticket sales. AMC management noted strong demand for themed merchandise associated with the film. This included collectibles such as the Yoshi popcorn bucket.
The sales of these themed items were reported as the strongest since the release of the AMC-distributed Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film in October 2023.
Broader Theatrical Trends
While The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was the primary driver of the weekend’s success, AMC indicated that the surge in attendance was not the result of a single title alone.
Other films contributing to the overall attendance figures included:
- The Drama, a new release
- Project Hail Mary, which maintained continued momentum
- Hoppers, which also contributed to the weekend’s traffic
Industry analysts suggest that this strong Easter performance may be an early signal of demand reacceleration for the theatrical market.
The momentum comes as the film industry relies on a more robust slate of releases for the spring and summer seasons. Sustaining this level of consistent foot traffic is considered critical following a softer start to the 2026 calendar year.
