AMD recently unveiled the Radeon RX 9060, a new graphics card aiming to deliver solid 1080p gaming performance. But there’s‌ a twist – ‌it might not be⁢ available ⁣for⁤ you to simply buy and‍ build into your⁤ PC. Let’s dive into everything‌ we know about this intriguing new ‍GPU.

Radeon RX 9060: Specs ⁢and Performance Expectations

The Radeon RX 9060 is positioned as an entry-level card, and early specifications ‍suggest it will offer a compelling experience ⁣for 1080p⁢ gamers. ⁢⁣ It‌ boasts 8GB of GDDR6 memory and, according to⁣ leaks, features 2048 cores.

Initially, power consumption was estimated to be around 120-130W, mirroring ⁤the Radeon RX 6600.⁤ Though, AMD has officially confirmed a‍ TDP of ⁢ 132W, matching ⁤the RX 6600 exactly. This⁤ means you’ll only need a single eight-pin power connector for most models, though some custom designs may deviate from this.

The higher-end RX 9060 XT ‌variant is also on the horizon, with a TDP ranging from 160-182W (16GB models perhaps hitting the higher⁣ end‍ of that range). This⁤ suggests a ‍performance ⁣step up,but again,availability is a key⁤ concern.

The OEM-Only Limitation: What Dose This Mean for You?

Here’s⁣ the ‍biggest news: the‌ Radeon RX 9060 is, at least ⁣initially, primarily targeted at the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) market. This means AMD will be supplying the ‍card to companies that build and sell ⁢complete desktop systems – think pre-built gaming⁤ PCs from ⁤brands like Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Unluckily, this means that if you’re ⁣a PC enthusiast who enjoys building your‌ own rig, you likely won’t be able ⁢to purchase the RX 9060 directly. It won’t be readily ‌available on retail shelves. While gray market options sometimes emerge (as seen with CPUs), they are unlikely to be plentiful for graphics cards.

If you’re set on a DIY build,the Radeon⁤ RX 9060 XT 8GB will be your go-to alternative.⁤ There’s a possibility AMD‌ might release the RX 9060 for general⁤ sale ‌later on, but don’t count on‌ it.

Why an OEM-Focused Release?

AMD’s strategy ‍here is ⁢likely aimed at increasing market share within the pre-built PC segment. By⁢ partnering directly with system integrators, they can⁤ ensure their GPUs‌ are ‌included⁤ in ‍a wider range of ‍readily ⁣available gaming machines. This is a smart move, but it understandably frustrates those⁢ of us who prefer ⁣the control and customization of⁣ a self-built⁤ PC.
